KJWW projects win Chicago Building Congress Merit Awards

Wed, June 1, 2016

The Chicago Building Congress (CBC) honored four KJWW projects at the group's 60th Annual Merit Awards May 24 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.

The Merit Awards have celebrated the building industry since 1956 by singling out the outstanding projects in greater Chicagoland built during the previous three years. This year 36 finalists were recognized, with nine winning projects receiving Merit Awards in the nine categories. The winning KJWW projects were the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, which won in the Rehab Construction category, and NewCity, which won in New Construction Chicago -- Over $55 Million. Two other KJWW projects were finalists: Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Center for Advanced Care (New Construction Chicago -- Over $55 Million) and Chicago Renaissance Hotel (Interior Buildout).

Entries from all nine categories were judged individually in multiple judging sessions by a dedicated panel of 40 CBC member volunteers on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Distinctive, functional, or innovative design
  • Quality of Construction
  • Impact of the project upon the community
  • Safety Record

The CBC is the only vertically-integrated trade association in the Chicago area.  Its varied membership includes real estate professionals, general contractors, subcontractors, engineering firms, architects, labor unions, associations, governmental entities, educational facilities, financial institutions, insurance providers, consultants, media publications, and material manufacturers and suppliers.
