Denver museum featuring MKK/IMEG design wins ENR Best Project Award

The Kirkland Museum in Denver has been named a 2018 ENR Mountain States Best Project winner in the cultural/worship category.

MKK/IMEG provided mechanical, electrical and lighting design services for the project, which was led by architectural firm Olson Kundig and built by Shaw Construction. The project included relocating the 1910-1911 Vance Kirkland studio and art school eight blocks from the museum's original location to its new location in Denver's Golden Triangle Creative District.

The new 38,000-sf building contains four times the space of the original museum. In addition to the historic studio and art school, the new museum offers world-class display space to exhibit the collection, increased storage capacity for long-term archival preservation, a gift shop with collection pieces available for purchase, and a cafe.

MKK/IMEG also provided design for Best Project Merit Award winners in the K-12 education and sports/entertainment categories – Riverview School in Glenwood Springs, Colo., and the Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center in Laramie, Wyo.

The Kirkland Museum project and other 2018 ENR Mountain States Best Project Award winners will be featured in the magazine's October issue. Read more.
